LAFAYETTE, Ind. — At their annual evening social in June, the Association of Women Business Owners (AWBO) unveiled the results of a contest held for the development of a new organization logo and tagline. Approximately 40 members and guests were in attendance at Windows on the Levee for the event.

Association of Women Business Owners bows new logo created by Lyndi McDonough of Mason, Ohio
The AWBO Board of Directors chose the new logo because they felt it was a great font representation of both business and female character. The AWBO logo was designed by Lyndi McDonough, a 2008 Purdue University graduate and former Helen magazine intern from Mason, Ohio.
The new tagline is “Where women in business meet.” The tagline was adapted from one developed by Betsy Sattler of Indianapolis, a former Helen magazine intern and a senior at Purdue University majoring in visual communications design with minors in advertising/public relations and anthropology.
The winning entries were submitted by AWBO members Sharon Martin and Susan Woodson of Full Moon Communications. For submitting the winning entries, the women each receive a free AWBO membership for the 2008-2009 year. These creations were chosen from 30 entries.
With more than 100 members, AWBO is the only organization in the area specifically devoted to the networking and support of women business owners. For more information, visit www.awbo.org.

Purdue community warned of e-mail scam

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The IT Networks & Security Incident Response group continues to warn the Purdue community about reports of a targeted e-mail scam.
The e-mails appear to come from various Purdue administrative departments or units and ask users to confirm their e-mail address by responding with their password information. Additional variants of the scam e-mails ask users to navigate to a specific URL and then enter their Purdue user name and passwords. Many of these e-mails use Purdue terminology and appear highly authentic.
“In most variations, the e-mails state that if the user does not respond or take some required action, their e-mail account will be deactivated from the database,” said Scott Ksander, executive director of IT networks and security. “Users should immediately delete the e-mail and not take the action requested.”
These are targeted e-mail scams and phishing e-mails that attempt to fraudulently acquire sensitive information by masquerading as an authoritative entity such as the Purdue Webmail Team, Ksander said. He reminds campus computing users that IT units at Purdue should never ask users to divulge their passwords to university IT resources.
Ksander recommends those who have already responded to the e-mail immediately reset their passwords. Users can go to the password reset page located at http://www.purdue.edu/securepurdue. Click on the “Change Your Password” link.
