WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — From animals to insects and engineering to science, Purdue University’s Spring Fest proves that learning can be fun. The annual family festival takes place 10a to 4p April 18 and 19 on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus. The event is free.

Credit, debit card fees related to tax payment now deductible

WASHINGTON, DC — Credit or debit card convenience fees charged for paying federal individual income taxes electronically are deductible for some taxpayers who itemize, the Internal Revenue Service announced today. Federal law bars the IRS from paying any fees associated with these credit or debit transactions. Card processors normally charge taxpayers for convenience fees when they use their credit or debit card to pay taxes. Fees vary but average about 2.5 percent of the tax payment.

LSO presents Spanish Fiesta featuring guitarist Jason Vieaux

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — In the final show of the 2008-2009 season, the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra presents “Spanish Fiesta”, a celebration of animated Latin rhythms by Gershwin, Rodrigo, Galindo and more. Classical guitarist Jason Vieaux is the guest artist for this performance.

Racing technology on display April 23 at Motorsports on the Mall

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Racing fans can get an up-close look at a variety of racecars during the 2nd annual Motorsports on the Mall event April 23. Sponsored by the Purdue Motorsports Association, the event will be from 10a-4p on the Engineering Mall. It is one of many activities planned for the week leading up to the Grand Prix kart race on April 25.

Annual Stopping Child Abuse Summit postponed, new date announced

LAFAYETTE, Ind. -– The 4th Stopping Child Abuse Summit, originally scheduled for this Wednesday, April 8th, is being postponed until Monday, May 4, 2009 out of respect for the deaths of two advocates for children in Tippecanoe County. The theme for the summit is “Connections Count” and the steering committee determined that with the passing of Michael Dunlop, Tippecanoe County Juvenile Probation Officer, and Doug Eberle, President & CEO of the Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette, family and colleagues needed to have the opportunity to pay their respects without concern for missing this community wide conversation.

Purdue, Rutgers will lead $30 million U.S. homeland security research center

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue and Rutgers universities will co-lead an international research and education group in a six-year, $30 million U.S. Department of Homeland Security center to create methods and tools to analyze and manage vast amounts of information for all mission areas of homeland security. The agency’s new Center of Excellence in Command, Control and Interoperability will comprise the Purdue and Rutgers teams. Both will contribute to developing new methods to aid homeland security personnel in preparing for, preventing, detection of, response to and recovery from terrorist attacks as well as natural and manmade disasters.
