Tippecanus Rex art submissions accepted through March 25

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University Galleries and Tippecanoe Arts Federation invite local artists, writers and performers of all ages to participate in a community-wide project of creativity, imagination, myth and tall tales called “Tippecanus Rex” (Tipp-eh-can-us Rex).

Tippecanoe Arts Federation is currently accepting submissions for the exhibit – deadline for submissions is Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 5:00pm.

“Tippecanus Rex” is a community-wide exhibit project that will highlight the invented history of the Tippecanoe County region, through visual, performing, musical, and literary art. It will be presented from April 1 through May 10, 2009 at the Tippecanoe Arts Federation. Imaginative interpretation and fantastic fabrication will run rampant, with a dose of irreverent blarney. The project is meant to be whimsical and imaginative, teasing visitors with mythical beasts, imagined histories and fake statistics. It will also emphasize the contributions and new creative works of artists, writers and performers in this area. “Tippecanus Rex” is sponsored by Purdue University Galleries and Tippecanoe Arts Federation. All creative individuals in the 14 counties served by TAF are eligible.

Entry forms are available at www.tippecanusrex.com, www.tippecanoearts.org, and www.purdue.edu/galleries.

For information, contact Purdue Galleries director Craig Martin at cdmartin@purdue.edu or 765-494-3061, or Tippecanoe Arts Federation at taf@tippecanoearts.org or 765- 423-2787.

“Tippecanus Rex” is presented in conjunction with “Urban Legends and Rural Myths,” at Purdue University Galleries. The two exhibits are a joint project supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts. Activities of the Tippecanoe Arts Federation are provided, in part, with support from the Indiana Arts Commission, a state agency, with funds from the Indiana General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts.
