2011 Art on the Wabash set for September 18

2011 Art on the WabashWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -– Seven first-time participants are among the 42 artists selected by a jurist to exhibit in the sixth annual Art on the Wabash, a local artists’ fair slated for West Lafayette’s Tapawingo Park from 10:00a to 4:00p, Sunday, September 18, 2011.

New to the fair this year are Monticello’s Deborah Waymire, who makes glass jewelry; and six artists from Greater Lafayette — Rheta Eason, mixed media; Holly Graef, oil paintings and marbled paper; Frank Koontz, pottery; William Krug, turned wood; Anna Olson, watercolor, jewelry and acrylic; and Michelle Wood-Voglund, glass.

Artists were chosen from more than 50 applicants by jurist Minda Douglas, assistant professor in fine arts at Indiana University Kokomo. She earned her bachelor’s at Wayne State University and her master’s of fine arts at Louisiana State University, both in printmaking. Beside Koontz, another 10 potters will participate: Coal Creek Clay, Lynne Corrigan, Mary Thomas Firestone, Scott Frankenberger, Nancy Grenard, Gail Johnston, Diana May, Angi Peterson, Roberta Schonemann and Angela Vinson.

Eight artists, including Waymire, are bringing a variety of clay, glass and metal jewelry: Elizabeth Beeson, EB Bead and Metal Works, Linda Elmore, Lisa Hopkins, Rebecca Minniear, Joanne Kuhn Titolo and Lisa Walsh. Glass artists, who make various objects including jewelry, are Kathryn Bodine, Kathleen Kitch and Beverly Skinner.
Watercolorists are Rebecca Brody, Rhonda Mitchell, Anna Olson, Sara Vanderkleed and Craig Whitten.

Other artists are Alice Harpel, acrylics; Debby Remsburg, gourd art; Becky Chapman and Terri Duncan, mixed media; photographers J. Michael Brooks and Al Knight; sculptors Thomas Billeaux, Linda LeMar and Donna Leuck; and Larry Clark and Phil Conlon, who work with wood.

Participation in the juried fair was open to artists living in 15 area counties. Those accepted are residents of Benton, Fountain, Montgomery, Tippecanoe and White counties. Art on the Wabash artists’ fair is presented by the City of West Lafayette with assistance from Tippecanoe Arts Federation and sponsorship funding from West Lafayette’s KitchenArt, The Store for Cooks.
