AWBO February meeting to feature entrepreneur Sharon Rivenbark

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Association of Women Business Owners’ February 12 meeting will feature Sharon Rivenbark, owner and president of For Bare Feet. She will discuss her journey of the past 24 years in creating a nationally known sock manufacturing enterprise with no formal business education and minimal business experience.

For Bare Feet was started in 1984 with a single antique knitting machine in a small retail shop in Nashville, Indiana. Now located in Helmsburg, Indiana, For Bare Feet produces headbands, wristbands and thousands of designs of socks for an array of clients that include Major League Baseball, the National Football League, the National Hockey League, and the Women’s National Basketball Association. It also produces goods for universities in the U.S. and Canada.

Founded in 1982, AWBO meets at MCL Cafeteria in West Lafayette at 11:45 a.m. on the second Tuesday of every month to give Lafayette-area women an opportunity to concentrate on the managing and planning of their businesses. Future meeting programs include Harry Dunwoody of Lafayette Savings Bank on March 11, 10 three-minute member-business spotlights on April 8, and a rape defense program on May 13. Women who have an ownership interest in a business or who file a Schedule C with the IRS are welcome to attend AWBO meetings and investigate membership.

With approximately 100 members, AWBO is the only organization in the area specifically devoted to the networking and support of women business owners. For more information, visit
