AAF North Central Indiana celebrates 2008 ADDY winners

LAFAYETTE, Ind. –– The American Advertising Federation – North Central Indiana (AAF-NCI) held its annual awards banquet last night (Tuesday, February 24) where it announced the winners of 2008-09 ADDY Awards. The ADDYs is conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF) which is a three-tier, national competition recognizing exceptional advertising and marketing created in the Greater Lafayette area in all media including print, broadcast, out-of-home and public service. To be eligible for consideration of an ADDY, all work must be published or aired between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2008.

The 2008-2009 ADDY winners were announced at the annual awards banquet held at the Purdue Memorial Union in West Lafayette, Indiana on Tuesday, February 24, 2009.

Awards Ceremony
This year’s ADDY ceremony was held on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at the Purdue Memorial Union Ballrooms. The winners were announced during a formal banquet for 120 AAF-NCI members and guests. Entries received this year were 104, down from 171 from last year due to the economy. Gold ADDY award winners automatically advance to the district competition in March.

Special AAF-NCI Members Recognized
This year, the AAF-NCI recognized members who have achieved and or contributed much to the organization, their careers and the Greater Lafayette Community.

Lifetime Achievement Award
The Silver Medal Award recognizes lifetime achievement in the marketing, advertising and public relations industry. Criteria for this award are career recognition, duty to community, dedication and involvement in our organization, and the spirit of career accomplishment. This year’s recipient is Allison Meadows.

Born in the Deep South among the fragrant magnolia trees, this individual can serve up the southern hospitality so thick it puts cook Paula Dean to shame. She attended Burnsville High School and was very active in drama and music for many years. After graduating in 1983, she attended Blue Mountain College, a southern Baptist women’s school in Blue Mountain, MS, where she studied Journalism. During an award-winning journalism career as a newspaper editor in Mississippi, Ohio and Indiana, she continued her love of music in many church and civic music productions serving as director, musician and soloist. Her creative desires were strengthened by her active role in music and the flair of creative writing which transitioned into a successful marketing career. Prior to her job as director of marketing and admissions at Mulberry Health & Retirement Community, she served as director of marketing and public relations in the petrochemical and refining industries.

In 2003, she moved to our community where she continued to be actively involved in her church, civic and school music programs volunteering in many capacities from teaching, performing, directing and fundraising. In 2004, she became involved in the Association of Advertising and Marketing Professionals, now AAF-NCI, and served on the ADDY committee. She became President-elect and then President in 2006, serving 18 months as our leader that single-handedly transformed a struggling organization into its national club-of-the-year status today. She worked tirelessly in writing a profound strategic plan, new structured by-laws, and reworked our directors’ job function.

“She had the vision to make not just us a better club, but a great club, something that our members would be proud to be associated with,” states David Huhnke, Past-President. “She mentored and challenged so many of us during those first 18 months of the transformation. As the next president after her term, she was a hard act to follow. You had to add some additional self-pressure to be successful and achieve the national status she established. Her unselfishness instilled a sense of pride and accomplishment for our directors and club on a local level and also on the national level. What made it easy following her as president was that the model she worked so hard to establish was set in motion and easy to follow. If you had the desire to be successful, you just listen and followed the path set in place.”

As president in 2007, our organization was named AAF National Club of the Year and she was named National President of the Year. Her leadership garnered first place in Club Management, Programming, Membership, Education; third place in Public Service and Government Relations; and the Saatchi and Saatchi Education Award. Today, she is programming co-chair of our club and serves as AAF’s District 6 Lt. Governor for Indiana, District 6 ADDY Chair and on the committee of the National Student Advertising Competition. Her career spans many hundreds of volunteer hours including Leadership Lafayette, NW Indiana Alzheimer Association Board Chair, Memory Walk Chair, Caregiver Conference Chair, Area IV Senior Games Steering Committee and area school and church music programs. She has earned ADDY awards in 2006 and 2007 and was the recipient of the Presidential Cup in 2006.

Presidential Cup Award
Now in its fourth year, AAF-NCI presented the Presidential Cup to a member who has contributed the most to the organization in 2008. The 2008 Presidential Cup Award winner is Michelle Kreinbrook.

Serving as the president of our local club, this person has served in multiple board terms in the position of secretary, president-elect, hospitality chair, Ad Fed community service committee, ADDY committee member, Club Achievement Book committee, District 6 Fall Conference committee member and has attended our national convention for the past two years. Her work since taking office has included the strategic plan update, by-law revisions, club name change, overseeing the implementation of our new development plan and facilitating our board retreat and officer transition.

With degrees from Ball State University in general sciences, allied health and nuclear medicine, she has been Director of Marketing for Unity Healthcare since 2002. Prior to Unity, she worked at Greater Lafayette Health Services in the Department of Nuclear Medicine. She also is a very busy mother with 3 children under 6 with a supportive spouse which allows her to be involved in the community.

Her list of community involvement is extensive, serving as alumnus advisor with Chi Omega Sorority; board of directors for the YWCA and TippyConnect; committee chair for the Ultimate Pink Party; marketing coordinator for Cancer Survivor Day; Leadership Lafayette Career Academy Graduate and team coordinator for Relay for Life, Alzheimer’s Walk, March of Dimes and Light the Night Walk.

Rising Star Award
To recognize a young (32 years old or younger) professional in the NCAF Club for their career achievement and community service to date, the 2008 Rising Star recipient is Kristy Robb.

This year’s recipient has a lengthy resume of award winning career accomplishments and a spirit of public service. A graduate of Ball State University, this year’s winner earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and stated her career at Purdue Employees Federal Credit Union in 1999.

In her career as Marketing Manager at PEFCU, she utilizes her creativity and organization skills to take the marketing department to a higher level. She is proficient and excels in press release creation, public relations and marketing strategies; copy writing/editing/proofing; design software proficiencies; and also serves as the official Drew Brees spokesperson contact for PEFCU. She currently manages a staff of six full-time employees that range from credit cards, membership development, financial literacy, communications, marketing and graphic design.

Through her leadership, PEFCU has received numerous awards and recognition for its creativity and innovation with awards from the ADDYs; Indiana Credit Union League Major League Awards; Credit Union Executive Golden Mirror Awards; Credit Union National Association Diamond Awards; CSCU Cameo Awards; and the Callahan Awards.

She plays a critical role in the marketing success and overall credit union performance while serving as a mentor to other employees to encourage them to do their best.

A busy mother of two pre-schoolers and a supportive spouse, she has shared her creative talents through a variety of organizations such as United Way Marketing Committee; Leadership Lafayette Board; and Fowler Historic Theatre. She is also a 2002 graduate of Leadership Lafayette.
