Lafayette residents earn honors for academic excellence

VALPARAISO, Ind. and BLACKSBURG, Virg. — Two Lafayette residents were recently honored by their universities for excellence during the 2007-2008 academic year.

Kellie Koerner of Lafayette was recognized by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Valparaiso University for her achievement during the 2007-2008 academic year. Koerner was inducted into Valparaiso’s chapter of Pi Delta Phi, the French Honor Society.

Koerner is a junior biology and secondary education major. She is the daughter of Steven and Linda Koerner of Lafayette.

Chelsy W. Smidler of Lafayette was named to the dean’s list at Virginia Tech for the spring 2008 semester. Smidler is a freshman majoring in general engineering in the College of Engineering. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must attempt at least 12 credit hours graded on the A-F option and earn a 3.4 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) during the semester.
