LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Dr. Joel McCuaig of McCuaig, Knutson and Associates, will debut the new 3D high definition da Vinci Surgical System at an open house on February 20, 2009 from 5:00p to 8:00p.
The da Vinci robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgical procedures incur less pain and scarring and shorten recovery times as compared to traditional “open” surgeries and can treat conditions as diverse as obesity, heart disease and prostate cancer. Patient results are improved through the simplification of many existing procedures, difficult operations are now more routine and new procedures are possible with the assistance of devices such as the da Vinci.
The da Vinci Surgical System provides surgeons with an alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy, putting a surgeon’s hands at the controls of a state-of-the-art robotic platform.
McCuiag will give a talk and demonstration of the device beginning at 6:00p. Visitors can participate in hands-on activities and experience the dynamic scope of the robotic device by performing activities requiring a high degree of precision using the physician training tools.
