Two injured in single vehicle crash on CR 900 N

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Two West Lafayette men were injured in a single car crash last night (December 1) on Country Road 900 N near the intersection of Harrison Road.

At approximately 8:57p, members of the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, Tippecanoe Township Fire Department, and the Tippecanoe Emergency Ambulance Service responded to the area of CR 900 North and Harrison Road on the report of a one vehicle personal injury crash at that location. Upon arrival at the scene, responding officers determined that an occupant of the vehicle had been ejected and had sustained serious injuries. A second occupant of the vehicle was observed fleeing the scene, but was later located in the immediate area and sustained minor injuries. The Lafayette Metro Fatal Alcohol Crash Team was called to the scene to assist with the investigation.

Upon further investigation it has been determined that the 1992 Buick Skylark was travelling westbound on CR 900 North approaching the intersection with Harrison Road. The vehicle failed to stop for the posted stop sign at the intersection and continued westbound. Just west of the intersection, the Skylark crossed a set of railroad tracks at a high rate of speed and lost control. The car briefly left the travel portion of the roadway where it impacted a telephone junction box. Upon returning to the roadway the vehicle proceeded to roll over. The Skylark came to final rest inverted in the east travel lane.

Injured in the crash were Chad M. Anthrop, 19, and a 16 year old minor. Both of the victims were transported to St. Elizabeth for treatment. Anthrop, who had been ejected from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries, was later airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Excessive speed and alcohol are a considered factors in the crash and the case remains under investigation at this time. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Deputy Aaron Gilman with the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office at (765) 423-9388.
