Strong wind advisory in effect through Thursday AM

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for an area that includes the Purdue University campus and surrounding areas in Greater Lafayette, Indiana that will be in effect until 1 a.m. Thursday (Dec. 10). The high winds and expected colder temperatures are part of a strengthening low-pressure system moving into the Great Lakes region.

A “wind advisory” means that sustained winds of 30-40 mph are expected, with gusts of 50 mph or more. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles (tall trucks, vans, some SUVs… vehicles that are taller than their wheelbase is wide). Winds will have the greatest impact on drivers traveling on roads with a north, south, northwest or southeast orientation. Motorists are urged to use extra caution on the roadways.
