Slick roads cause three car collision on North 9th

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A section of North 9th Street near Battle Ground was closed for approximately one hour yesterday following a three car collision caused by slick road conditions.

At approximately 5:47p, members of the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, Battle Ground Police Department, Battle Ground Fire Department, and Tippecanoe County Medics were dispatched to a three vehicle accident on North 9th Street just south of Battle Ground.

A red 1999 Pontiac Sunfire, driven by Jacobie Thompson (18, Lafayette), was traveling south on North 9th street when she lost control of the vehicle due to the slick road conditions. The Pontiac slid into the path of an oncoming Battle Ground Volunteer firetruck. The driver of the Battle Ground firetruck, Joseph Wade (33, Battle Ground), was unable to avoid the Pontiac and the vehicles collided head on. The Pontiac was then struck in the rear by a maroon 2003 Chevrolet truck that had been traveling southbound, directly behind the Pontiac.

Wade, the driver of the firetruck, and Ryan Wellner (32, Battle Ground), the driver of the maroon Chevrolet truck were uninjured. Jacobie Thompson was transported to St. Elizabeth Central with non-life threatening injuries.

According to a Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s report, all parties involved appeared to be wearing safety belts and alcohol does not appear to be a factor at this time.
