Ivy Tech to host Science Olympiad Wildcard Tournament

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Science Olympiad Wildcard Tournament will be held Saturday, March 12 from 9:00a to 3:00p at Ivy Tech Community College in Lafayette. Winners of the wildcard tournament will proceed to the state tournament April 2 at Purdue University Calumet.

Science Olympiad is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of K-12 science education, increasing male, female and minority interest in science, creating a technologically-literate workforce and providing recognition for outstanding achievement by both students and teachers.

Sixteen teams are currently slated to compete at this year’s event. Division B teams are Our Lady of Grace (Highland), Northridge Middle School (Crawfordsville), Hammond Academy of Science and Technology (Hammond), Eastwood Middle School (Indianapolis), Pope John Paul II Middle School (Muncie), Winamac Middle School (Winamac) and R.J. Baskett Middle School (Gas City). Division C teams are Manchester High School (North Manchester), Griffith High School (Griffith), East Chicago Central (East Chicago), Salem High School (Salem), Winamac High School (Winamac), Sullivan High School (Sullivan) and Kokomo High School (Kokomo).

Events vary between Division B and Division C, but competitors will compete in events such as Awesome Aquifers, Bottle Rocker, Towers, Robot Ramble and many more. A complete listing of events and their descriptions for both divisions can be found on the Science Olympiad national website.

Most of the events are being coordinated by Ivy Tech faculty and staff, with the help of student volunteers.
