Dayton man dies in West Lafayette motorcycle crash

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A motorcyclist lost control of his bike shortly after 10:00p last night (Monday, July 11) near the intersection of US 52 and Morehouse Road in West Lafayette. The driver, 54 year old Jeffery C. Wooten of Dayton, was declared dead at the scene.

According to the Sheriff’s deputy’s report, the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department, with assistance from the Wabash Fire Department and TEAS Medic Units responded to a personal injury crash at the intersection of US Hwy 52 W and Morehouse Rd. The report says the black Honda motorcycle was traveling west bound, in the left lane, when Wooten apparently lost control and ran off the left side of the roadway into the center median. The driver was thrown off the vehicle and onto the grass in the center of the median. The driver was not wearing a helmet.

Wooten was declared deceased at the scene due to severe head trauma and was transported to St. Elizabeth Central Hospital. Crash reconstruction personnel were called to the scene to investigate the crash. Some witnesses claim that a green sport utility vehicle may have been involved; however, conflicting witnesses state that there was no such vehicle involved. The motorcycle may have been reacting to a vehicle changing lanes. The crash is still under investigation.
