Purdue Bands concert to feature Tchaikovsky, Bizet

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Purdue Philharmonic and the Purdue Symphony Orchestra will perform works by Tchaikovsky, Bizet and Khachaturian at 8 p.m. Saturday (March 7) in Elliott Hall of Music.

The concert, which will be directed by Andrew King, is free and open to the public.

The Purdue Symphony Orchestra will open the concert with selections including Georges Bizet’s “Carmen,” Benjamin Britten’s “Sentimental Sarabande” and Aram Khachaturian’s “Masquerade Suite.”

The Purdue Philharmonic will present the evening’s featured work, Tchaikovsky’s “Symphony No. 4 in F minor, Opus 36.” Tchaikovsky started writing the piece in February 1877, the same time frame that he entered significant relationships with two women who deeply impacted the musician.
