WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue student employees will be honored April 13-19 as part of National Student Employment Week.
The Student Employment Services in the Division of Financial Aid at Purdue and the National Student Employment Association promote the week in April as a way to recognize the important role that student workers fulfill on and off campus.
Employers are encouraged to let student employees know that their efforts in the workplace are appreciated, said David Reseigh, Purdue’s student employment coordinator in the Division of Financial Aid.
Employers that hire student workers get talented and dedicated employees with a desire to learn, Reseigh said.
“Students who work not only earn funds to help offset the costs of attending college, but also learn important job skills that can be used throughout their careers,” he said. “Students are the primary beneficiaries of their own education, so they should help contribute to their own college expenses. They can do this by working part-time during the academic year, taking on a summer job, accepting an internship or enrolling in a co-op program.”
Purdue offers a variety of resources, including federal work study, job location and development, co-operative education and internship opportunities, to bring student workers and employers together.
