Free summer tutoring program for Latino children ages 5-8

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Beginning in July, the West Lafayette Public Library is offering a free program to help local Latino parents aid their children in skill development and retention before beginning the 2006-2007 school year.

The free summer tutoring program meets at the Children’s Activity Room on Saturdays in July at the West Lafayette Public Library, 208 W. Columbia St. West Lafayette, IN and is conducted a native Spanish speaker who is a Purdue graduate.

The activities will take place in two different times, 1:00 and 2:30 p.m. Reservations are not necessary.

Activities:

Children listen to stories read in English and Spanish
Children practice reading, spelling, handwriting, and math skills
Children have opportunities to make crafts
Parents and children work together
Parents receive help from tutors to locate materials in the library
