Purdue College of Tech to host free iPhone, iPod, iPad app seminar

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Individuals can learn more about applications for Apple Inc.’s mobile platforms, including the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad during a March 9 seminar on Purdue University’s West Lafayette campus.

Apple presents a free seminar at Purdue about developing applications for the iPhone, iPod Touch and the new iPad on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 from 6-8p in ME 161. Free and open to students and the public. Pizza will be provided.

Purdue College of Technology and its student chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) will host Introduction to Making an iPhone App from 6-8 p.m. in Room 161 of the Mechanical Engineering Building.

Speaker Steve Hayman, an Apple consulting engineer, will show how individuals and institutions are building innovative mobile applications for their organizations and broader audiences. He will highlight and deconstruct some popular applications and how to get started building personal applications using Apple’s free developer program.

In addition, he will discuss Web development with Dashcode, native application development with Xcode and Interface Builder, and will review the integration and deployment options and Apple’s developer program.

For those interested in more than just a one off seminar, Professor Kyle Lutes of the Department of Computer and Information Technology will announce the new iPhone application development course he will be offering during the Fall 2010 semester.

Students in Lutes’ CIT 425 will learn the essentials of developing and selling apps for the Apple iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Those interested in enrolling in CIT 425 can view more information at the course Web site or contact Lutes directly.
