Purdue Men’s Golf to host Puerto Rico Classic at Rio Mar Country Club

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Fresh off of a runner-up finish at the Big Ten Match Play Championship, the Purdue men’s golf team will play host to a stellar 15-team field this weekend at the Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

Sophomore Tyler Duncan and the Boilermakers will host the Puerto Rico Classic this weekend.

The setting for the event will be the par-72, 6,902-yard Rio Mar Country Club, where competitors will compete in 18 holes per day from Sunday-Tuesday. Action on Sunday and Monday will commence by way of a 7 a.m. ET shotgun start, while Tuesday’s final round will get under way with a shotgun start at 6:30 a.m. ET.

In what has become tradition in the nine previous years of the Puerto Rico Classic, this year’s event will feature a top-notch 15-team field. Headlined by top-ranked Oklahoma State and No. 10 Texas, the Puerto Rico Classic will play host to 10 teams ranked in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin ratings. In addition to the pair of top-10 teams on the slate, the field will also feature No. 12 Alabama, No. 19 Georgia Tech, No. 24 Georgia, No. 28 Clemson, No. 36 Kent State, No. 37 East Tennessee State, No. 40 Virginia Tech and 42nd-ranked Michigan.

The Boilermakers will take a squad of six players to Rio Grande for the event, with their exact lineup still to be determined. Junior Erich Johnston, the team leader in scoring average during the fall season, will make the trip to the Puerto Rico Classic, as will classmates Maximo Kopp and Nakarintra Ratanakul, sophomores Tyler Duncan and William Sjaichudin and freshman Henry Plager.
