Lafayette Online Dining Guide

About the Guide

The Lafayette Online Dining Guide has been part of Lafayette Online since its inception in 1995 (which is like an eternity in Internet years). Our goal is to provide information, reviews and pictures of all of the great places to eat in Greater Lafayette, Indiana in an un-financially-biased format.

Advertising

Do we accept advertising?

We’d be lying if we said we didn’t like money; however, our fervent love of the benjamins is satisfied by our day jobs and not by ruining this site by cluttering it up with ads or by compromising the quality of the reviews by selling preferential treatment.

That being said, this website does require some funds to keep operating, so we do offer some advertising opportunities and we do clearly mark our ads so you (the reader) can readily identify what is editorial content and what is advertisement.

Here’s what we DO:

  • We DO run AdSense on some pages.
  • We DO offer display ads in the left sidebar.
  • We DO offer very select banner ads in-post, but they’re clearly marked.
  • We DO charge a one-time $50.00 fee to create a new listing.
  • Why do we charge a set-up fee?
    1. Because it takes time and effort to create the listing.
    2. Because someone has to verify all the information.
    3. Because we have to make time to go take pictures.
    4. Because we have to eat there so we can write the review.
    5. Because we don’t get a cut of the hotel and restaurant taxes, and most important…
    6. Because running this website isn’t free.

Here’s what we DON’T DO:

  • We DO NOT accept money from restaurants to remove bad reviews.
  • We DO NOT take money in exchange for writing fake reviews.
  • We DO NOT accept money to write fake comments, or remove bad comments.
  • We DO NOT accept money to boost the star ratings.
  • We DO NOT let just anyone advertise. We completely reserve the right to reject ads and/or advertisers to protect the integrity of this site.

Editorial Policies

Do we screen comments?

Oh heck yes we screen comments. We screen comments for slanderous statements, for fake reviews, for spam and just for general noise. If your comment isn’t actually well-written, we’ll probably nuke it. We’re going for quality, not quantity.

Do we publish reviews from people who aren’t us?

We haven’t yet, but we might consider it. We haven’t up until now because we have some pretty tough criteria for becoming a certified, official, non-compensated Lafayette Online Dining Guide Food Critic.

To be considered as a possible certified official non-compensated Lafayette Online Dining Guide Food Critic:

  1. You should seriously enjoy food.
  2. You have to know how to spell.
  3. You must use proper grammar (Okay fine, decent grammar will work, but you really need to write like you passed the 8th grade).
  4. You must NOT have a financial interest or stake in any of the restaurants you review.
  5. You must NOT be a competitor of any of the restaurants you review.
  6. You MUST MUST MUST NOT use the fact that you are reviewing a restaurant to get free food or special treatment.
  7. You should stand-out as a regular contributor of good quality comments.
  8. You should definitely be a registered user.
