My husband and I started going to Asahi even before we moved to Lafayette - and through the years the restaurant has gained quite a following!
The food is excellent, with the sushi being a stand out and a good value. The service keeps getting better and better, and the nights here are *packed* so be sure to get in early for some amazingly good food!

as the other reviewer said, it is comparable to Benihana’s. Stop in for their amazing lunch specials (e.g. chicken teriyaki for $6 or the “asahi maki sushi special” for $10).
so, great food at a great price, but their service is lacking. With a high turnover rate for (non-related) employees, it seems a bit dysfunctional.

If you’re looking for a restaurant similar to Benihana’s, Asahi is the place. The building looks like it was an old Mexican restaurant, but the atmosphere inside is somewhat authentic.
The food is quite good at a more reasonable price than Benihana’s. The service and cooks are normally pretty friendly and helpful. This is a good place to go on a Friday or Saturday, because they surpisingly don’t ever seem to have much of a wait.
