Taste of Tippecanoe closes roads, detours buses in Downtown Lafayette


LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The annual “Taste of Tippecanoe” will cause road closures and significant detours in the Downtown Lafayette area on Saturday, June 20th and Sunday, June 21st. To help bus riders plan around the Taste festivities, CityBus has announced route and schedule changes for the weekend.

The Taste of Tippecanoe is a one day, multi-stage festival that draws more than 50,000 people and features a smorgasbord of local restaurants, live music, and ends with a spectacular fireworks show for kids of all ages.

ROAD CLOSURES: The corner of Third and Ferry streets will be closed to all traffic, including buses. The CityBus customer service office in Riehle Plaza will be closed on Saturday after 4PM.

TRANSFER CENTER: Buses will hold on Third St. between North and Cincinnati. 1B, 3B, 4B, and 4A will hold between North & Brown, 1A, 2A, 2B, 3A, 6A, 6B, 7 will hold between Cincinnati & North.

TROLLEY: Right on 4th, right on Ferry, right on 5th, right on Columbia, resume route at 2nd. (Note: While Farmer’s market is in effect, until about noon, trolley will need to use 6th instead of 5th). In West Lafayette, trolley will use State St. going east and west bound instead of Tapawingo and Brown. Brown St. will be bypassed.

1A MARKET SQUARE: Bus will depart to North St. as regular route. Evening outbound bus will turn right on 5th, left on Ferry. Inbound bus will turn right on 4th at Brown, left on Cincinnati, left on 3rd.

1B SALISBURY: The outbound bus will turn left on North, right on 5th (6th while Farmer’s Market in effect), right on Columbia, resume route at 2nd. Inbound bus will turn left on River Rd. from State St., right on the ramp to the Harrison Bridge, cross river, exit right on Third St.

2A SCHUYLER: Bus will depart North St. to right on 5th, left on Ferry St., resume route. Inbound bus will turn left on Cincinnati from 4th.

2B UNION: Bus will depart North St. to left on 6th.

3A LAFAYETTE SQUARE: Outbound bus will turn left on North, right on 5th (6th while Farmer’s Market open), left on South. Inbound bus will turn left on Cincinnati from 4th.

3B NORTHWESTERN: Outbound bus will turn left on North, right on 5th (6th while Farmer’s market open), right on Columbia, and will resume route at 2nd St. Inbound bus will turn left on River Rd. from State St., right on the ramp to the Harrison Bridge, cross river, exit right on Third St.

4A TIPPECANOE MALL: Outbound bus will turn left on North, right on 5th (6th while Farmer’s Market open), left on South. Inbound bus will turn left on Cincinnati from 4th.

4B PURDUE WEST: The outbound bus will turn left on North, right on 5th (6th while Farmer’s Market operating), right on Columbia, resume route at 2nd.

6A FOURTH ST.: Outbound bus will turn left on North, right on 5th (6th while Farmer’s Market open), right on Columbia, left on 2nd. Inbound bus will turn left on Cincinnati from 4th.

6B S. 18TH ST: Outbound bus will turn left on North, right on 5th (6th while Farmer’s Market open), left on South. Inbound bus will turn left on Cincinnati from 4th.

7 STATE ROAD: Outbound bus will turn left on North, right on 5th, left on Ferry. Inbound bus will turn left on Cincinnati from 4th.

CityBus announces Thanksgiving service changes, 3A detour expires


LAFAYETTE, Ind. — CityBus will not operate on Thursday, November 27 due to the Thanksgiving
holiday. Additionally, the Purdue Campus Loop routes will not operate from 6:00p Tuesday, November
25, through the weekend, including evening and night buses. Campus Loop service resumes on Monday, December 1.

3A Lafayette Square detour expires Sunday, November 23. Regular route service resumes Monday, November 24.

Regular route and trolley riders should be aware that when Purdue classes are not held, as will be the case on Wednesday, November 26 and Friday, November 28, the following changes occur:

  1. Route 4B Purdue West/Downtown detours through Purdue Village when inbound. There is no inbound service on State St. between Airport Rd. and S. Martin Jischke Dr.
  2. 5 Happy Hollow service is reduced to one bus operating on a 60 minute frequency from 9:30AM to 4:00PM.
  3. Route 8 Klondike Express does not operate on days when classes are not held.
  4. The Wabash Trolley Line follows the Black Line route. S. River
    Rd., Williams, and S. Grant will not be served.

Route 3A Lafayette Square Detour Expires

The detour on route 3A Lafayette Square, which has been in effect for several months, will expire on Monday morning, November 24. The bus route has been detouring due to the closure of State St. and Earl Ave. These streets are now open.

CityBus will continue operating the detour through Sunday, November 23 in order to allow time for passengers to become aware of the change.

Beginning on Monday, November 24, the bus will follow its regular route. The outbound bus will follow State St., 26th St., and Teal Rd. to 18th St. The inbound bus will follow Teal Rd., 22nd St., and State
St. to 18th St.

CityBus detour to affect route 3A Lafayette Square


LAFAYETTE, Ind. — CityBus announced today that the intersection of State Street and 22nd Street at Earl Avenue in Lafayette will close due to construction beginning Tuesday, September 9, for approximately three months.

3A detour will be in effect for approximately 3 months.3A Lafayette Square buses will not be able to serve State St., 26th, 22nd, or Teal Rd. (between 26th and 18th streets). Both inbound and outbound 3A buses will remain on 18th St. for the duration of the
construction project, serving 18th St. between Main St. and Shoshone.

All passengers usually boarding along State, 26th, 22nd, or Teal Rd. east of 18th St. will need to walk to 18th St. to board the 3A buses.

Jeff H.S. and Tecumseh students who currently board the inbound 3A along 22nd St. will need to board at the bus stop at Hiatt and 18th St.

CityBus announces two new detours effective Monday, June 23


LAFAYETTE, Ind. — CityBus announced two new detours this morning (Friday, June 20) affecting the 3A Lafayette Square route and the 4B Purdue West routes. Both detours will be in effect as of Monday, June 23rd and last through the end of the summer.

3A Lafayette Square Detouring at 22nd Street

Beginning Monday June 23 and lasting for the rest of summer, 22nd St. in Lafayette will be closed from Teal Rd. to Hiatt. The inbound 3A Lafayette Square bus will detour using Teal Rd. to left on 26th St., and the route will resume at Earl Ave. Buses will not be able to provide service along the east side of Jefferson High School and Tecumseh Middle School. Riders in these locations should board the bus at 26th St. or at the corner of State St. and Earl Ave.

4B Purdue West Detouring in Purdue Village

The inbound 4B Purdue West/Klondike bus is detouring around a closed street in Purdue Village. The bus will follow Nimitz to right on Halsey, right on Airport Rd., right on State St., resuming the route at S. Martin Jischke. Nimitz will not be served from Halsey to Jischke, and Jischke will not be served from Nimitz to State St. This detour will be in effect beginning June 23rd for the rest of the summer.
