Tis the season: Downtown Lafayette lights and decorations go up Nov 1

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Nearly one hundred volunteers from the IBEW Local 668 (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) and the NECA (National Electrical Contractors Association) will spend Saturday, November 1 installing special lighting on the Tippecanoe County courthouse dome, Riehle Plaza, the community tree, and other places throughout downtown Lafayette.
The work, coordinated by Greater Lafayette Commerce, will begin at 8:00am. In addition to the lighting, holiday banners and lighted snowflakes will also be installed on light poles around downtown.
The decorations and lights will be officially turned on for the season during the annual Holiday Lighting Celebration and Community Sing on Saturday, December 6th from 5:25-6:00pm.
The annual Dickens of a Christmas will also be in Downtown Lafayette-West Lafayette on December 6th from 10:00am–9:00pm.
Other upcoming holiday events include Merchant Holiday Open House on November 7 and 8 and the Christmas Parade on December 7. For more information, please contact Jane Ness at the GLC, 765/742-4044.

The Lafayette Irish Dancers will perform at the September 13 Lafayette Farmers Market
Squash, fall flowers, honey, maple syrup, Traders Point Certified Organic Whole Milk, Fair Oaks Cheeses, gourmet pet treats, meats, kettle corn, free range farm fresh eggs, herbs, baked goods, and arts/crafts are among the products now available at the Market.
The Market, managed by the Downtown Development Council of the Lafayette-West Lafayette Development Corporation, is open on Tuesdays from 7:30 am – 12:30 pm, Thursdays from 4-7 pm, and Saturdays from 7:30 am – 12:30 pm through October. The Market is located in Downtown Lafayette on Fifth Street between Main and Columbia Streets.

St. Boniface to hold third annual GermanFest

LAFAYETTE, IN. — St. Boniface Catholic Church in Lafayette, Indiana will hold its third annual GermanFest celebration on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 9th and Ferry streets in downtown Lafayette.
Gates open at 4:30 p.m. and admission is free. There will be activities for all ages, including authentic German food, carnival rides, midway games, bingo, black jack, laser tag, as well as a beer and wine garden. This year’s GermanFest will also feature live music by Polka Boy, a German Idol lip sync contest and a $10,000 raffle. The deadline to enter the German idol lip sync contest is September 6, 2008. To enter online, go to www.stbonifacegermanfest.org. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place.
GermanFest is a fund raiser for St. Boniface Catholic Church. All event proceeds will go fund church renovation projects.
Taste of Tippecanoe detours in effect for CityBus routes, June 21 and 22

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Tippecanoe Art Federation’s annual “Taste of Tippecanoe” will cause significant detours for CityBus routes that service Downtown Lafayette-West Lafayette on Saturday, June 21st and Sunday, June 22nd. CityBus has announced the following closings and detours to accommodate the street festival that draws nearly 50,000 people to Downtown Lafayette.

Riehle Plaza and surrounding streets will be closed. The customer service office in Riehle Plaza will be closed on Saturday after 4PM.
TRANSFER CENTER AT RIEHLE PLAZA:
Buses will hold on Third St. between North and Cincinnati. 1B, 3B, 4B, and 4A will hold between North & Brown, 1A, 2A, 2B, 3A, 6A, 6B, 7 will hold between Cincinnati & North.
TROLLEY:
Right on 4th, right on Ferry, right on 5th, right on Columbia, resume route at 2nd. (Note: While Farmer’s market is in effect, until about noon, trolley will need to use 6th instead of 5th). In West Lafayette, trolley will use State St. going east and west bound instead of Tapawingo and Brown. Brown St. will be bypassed.
1A MARKET SQUARE:
Bus will depart to North St. as regular route. Evening outbound bus will turn right on 5th, left on Ferry. Inbound bus will turn right on 4th at Brown, left on Cincinnati, left on 3rd.
1B SALISBURY:
The outbound bus will turn left on North, right on 5th (6th while Farmer’s Market in effect), right on Columbia, resume route at 2nd. Inbound bus will turn left on River Rd. from State St., right on the ramp to the Harrison Bridge, cross river, exit right on Third St.
2A SCHUYLER:
Bus will depart North St. to right on 5th, left on Ferry St., resume route. Inbound bus will turn left on Cincinnati from 4th.
2B UNION:
Bus will depart North St. to left on 6th.
3A LAFAYETTE SQUARE:
Outbound bus will turn left on North, right on 5th (6th while Farmer’s Market open), left on South. Inbound bus will turn left on Cincinnati from 4th.
3B NORTHWESTERN:
Outbound bus will turn left on North, right on 5th (6th while Farmer’s market open), right on Columbia, and will follow State St. to River Rd., bypassing Tapawingo, Brown, and Howard. Inbound bus will turn left on River Rd. from State St., right on the ramp to the Harrison Bridge, cross river, exit right on Third St.
4A TIPPECANOE MALL:
Outbound bus will turn left on North, right on 5th (6th while Farmer’s Market open), left on South. Inbound bus will turn left on Cincinnati from 4th.
4B PURDUE WEST:
The outbound bus will turn left on North, right on 5th (6th while Farmer’s Market operating), right on Columbia, resume route at 2nd.
6A FOURTH ST.:
Outbound bus will turn left on North, right on 5th (6th while Farmer’s Market open), right on Columbia, left on 3rd. Inbound bus will turn left on Cincinnati from 4th.
6B S. 18TH ST:
Outbound bus will turn left on North, right on 5th (6th while Farmer’s Market open), left on South. Inbound bus will turn left on Cincinnati from 4th.
7 STATE ROAD:
Outbound bus will turn left on North, right on 5th, left on Ferry. Inbound bus will turn left on Cincinnati from 4th.
Lafayette Fun Squares to perform at Lafayette Farmers Market, Saturday May 17

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Lafayette Fun Squares will be performing at the Lafayette Farmers’ Market on Saturday, May 24th from 9:30-11:30 am. Stacy Bogan will also be offering quick-sketch charcoal portraits.
Fresh fruits, vegetables, Chinese and Asian greens, gourmet dog biscuits, kettle corn, lamb, beef, pork, free range farm fresh eggs, flowers, honey, dried herbs, baked goods, farm related arts/crafts are all examples of items available at selected times during the 2008 Market season which runs through the end of October.
The Market is open on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 7:30am – 12:30pm and on Thursdays from 4:00pm -7:00pm. The Market is located in Downtown Lafayette on Fifth Street between Main and Columbia Streets.
