Purdue performers to offer singing Valentines


WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue Musical Organizations will be available for hire as they offer singing Valentines for the upcoming holiday.

On Feb. 13, the day before Valentine’s Day, a group of performers from the Purdue Varsity Glee Club, the Purduettes and the Purdue Bells will sing a romantic tune and deliver a rose, cookie and personalized card to locations throughout the Greater Lafayette area or sing a song by phone to long-distance loves.

Singing valentines cost $30, and orders must be placed and paid for by Wednesday (Feb. 11).

Song selections include “Unchained Melody,” “L-O-V-E,” “Will You Be My Valentine,” “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” and a Valentine medley sung to the tune of the “Brady Bunch” theme song.

Singing valentines cost $30, and orders must be placed and paid for by Wednesday (Feb. 11). Valentines delivered by phone will not include the rose, cookie or card. Cash, check and credit cards are accepted. Checks should be made payable to Purdue University and should be mailed to PMO Singing Valentines, 712 Third St., West Lafayette, IN, 47907.

Limited time slots are available, and all orders will be confirmed on or before Feb. 12. If your order has not been confirmed by Feb. 12, contact Purdue Musical Organizations at (765) 494-3941. All orders are non-refundable. In the event of an official closing of Purdue, all singing Valentines will be delivered on the next available business day.

PMO to offer discounted student tickets to Christmas Show


WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue Musical Organizations will offer a student special on ticket prices for the 75th Purdue Christmas Show.

Beginning Monday (Dec. 1) through Dec. 12, Purdue students can purchase one student ticket and get one free. Tickets for Purdue students are regularly $20 each.

For the discount, tickets must be purchased at the Stewart Center, Yue-Kong Pao Hall of Visual and Performing Arts or the Elliott Hall of Music box offices. Students must show their Purdue ID and there is a limit of two free tickets per identification card.

Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. Dec. 12; noon, 4 and 8 p.m. Dec. 13; and noon and 4 p.m. Dec. 14. PMO to present 75th anniversary Purdue Christmas Show


WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Seventy-five years after the curtain opened before an audience of 200 at the first Purdue Christmas Show held in Fowler Hall, Purdue Musical Organizations will present “Christmas is Calling You Home” Dec. 12-14 in Elliott Hall of Music.

Purdue Musical Organizations director Bill Griffel said everyone involved is grateful that so many friends, family, alumni and community members make the annual Purdue Christmas Show a part of their holiday plans. For the special 75th anniversary performances, 130 alumni from every era of PMO’s history will join the student performers on stage, he said.

Along with the returning alumni, campus and community performers in the show include members of the Purdue Varsity Glee Club, Purduettes, Purdue Bells, All Campus and Community Chorale, Heart & Soul and the PMO Kids Choir.

Griffel, who will direct the show for the first time this year, said the audience members get a different impression for every show they see.

Thousands see the show live and millions will see the 2007 production through broadcasts on public television and radio networks.

Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. Dec. 12; noon, 4 and 8 p.m. Dec. 13; and noon and 4 p.m. Dec. 14. Tickets are $20 for students age 13 through college; $26 for adults; $24 for seniors age 65 and older; and $12 for children age 12 and under. Purdue Musical Organizations also will offer a special children’s matinee at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 12. Children’s tickets are $10 per student for groups of 49 or less; $8 per student for groups of 50-99; and $6 per student for groups of 100 or more.
