Free Blue Ocean Strategy webinar designed to help businesses grow during recession


CHICAGO, Ill. — A webinar introducing businesses to Blue Ocean Stratgey (BOS) and its techniques for growing companies during a recession will be held tomorrow (July 14) at 11:00a EST. The webinar explains how to apply Blue Ocean basics to combat problems like decreased demand, increased costs and customer price sensitivity. It will also cover strategies for increasing the value of products and service offerings.

The webinar is hosted by Waterside Consulting and lead by Senior Principal, Carrie Halle and Lead Strategist, Michael Bolden. They will introduce listeners to Blue Ocean Strategy, expand the knowledge of those familiar with BOS, and explore new concepts in BOS 2.0.

Blue Ocean Strategy 2.0 is propriety to Waterside, and focuses on specific aspects of the Strategy Canvas and its Value Curves.

Free workshop targets laid-off workers in Greater Lafayette


WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Purdue College of Technology at Lafayette is holding a workshop May 16 to provide job search, financial and educational resources for those in the community who have recently lost their jobs.

Reach New Heights will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the Subaru of Indiana Automotive Training and Reception Center, 5500 Indiana 38 E. in Lafayette.

Representatives from WorkOne will discuss how and where to search for a job, and experts will present information about how to prepare resumes and cover letters, as well as how to prepare for a job interview. In addition, Industrial Federal Credit Union representatives will discuss how to pay bills during a downtime and how to budget and save money.

Purdue representatives also will offer information and answer questions. The College of Technology at Lafayette will have staff on hand to discuss the programs offered and how to enroll in classes. Financial aid representatives will be available to answer questions about how to afford higher education, how to apply for financial aid and how to receive scholarships. In addition, a student panel from the college will offer information and answer questions from those considering taking courses at the Lafayette location.

The College of Technology at Lafayette, located at Subaru of Indiana Automotive, offers certificate programs, associate degrees and bachelor’s degrees in industrial technology and organizational leadership and supervision. Courses are offered days and evenings and via distance learning.

PEFCU to host Identity Theft seminar, Sept 9


WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. –– Purdue Employees Federal Credit Union (PEFCU) invites the Greater Lafayette community to attend a no-cost seminar called “Identity Theft. Who’s got your number?” at 6 p.m., on Tuesday, September 9, at the PEFCU Financial Mall located at 1551 Win Hentschel Blvd. in West Lafayette.

One in five consumers fall victim to some kind of identity theft each year. The results can be devastating: damage to one’s credit report, average monetary losses of $1,200 or more, and nearly 30 hours of personal time spent to resolve the issue. Attend this seminar and learn ways to fight fraud from local experts who work in PEFCU’s Risk Department.

Tips will be provided on the following:

  • How to protect yourself from identity theft
  • How to identify fraud scams
  • What to do if you are a fraud victim

IT Networks and Security to present ‘Router Administration’


WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — IT Networks and Security will host the presentation “Router Administration” from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday (June 17) in Room 214B, Stewart Center at the Purdue University West Lafayette campus.

Brad Devine, senior network engineer for ITNS, will lead the presentation.

The presentation will focus on the different types of network devices and how they’re administered; what can happen when a network device is compromised; measures that can be taken to prevent problems; and the evolution of network devices, physical security, and AUX ports/virtual terminals.
