Allegedly drunk trucker rescued from disabled semi by divers


LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Members of the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a disabled semi tractor trailer on State Rd. 43 North. The driver of the semi had disregarded the “road closed – high water” signs at State Rd. 43 North and Soldiers Home Road. The driver continued southbound around the signs and drove into the high water on State Rd. 43 North.

Members of the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office Underwater Rescue and Recovery Team responded to the scene and rescued the driver. The water had entered the cab of the semi. The driver was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Medical Center and treated for hypothermia.

According to a statement by the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department, Guadalupe S. Martinez (age 51) of Hammond, Indiana was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle while Intoxicated and for Disregarding a Traffic Control Device. The driver’s Blood Alcohol Content was .22 grams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood, which is nearly three times the legal limit. He was not booked into jail because he was admitted to the hospital.

Lafayette man arrested after allegedly stabbing roommate

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — On Saturday, February 14, 2008 at approximately 2:00 a.m., Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 4200 Doten Drive, Lafayette, Indiana in reference to a complaint of a disturbance. Upon their arrival deputies determined that one of the residents, twenty-eight year old Joshua A. Neeley, had suffered a stab wound to the lower back. Neeley was later transported by ambulance to Home Hospital where he was admitted for treatment.

Neeley’s roommate, twenty-five year old Kenneth Elvon Jenkins III, was later arrested on suspicion of Aggravated Battery (I.C. 35-42-2-1.5) as a Class B Felony. Jenkins is currently being held in the Tippecanoe County Jail on a $50,000.00 bond.

According to Tippecanoe County Sheriff Tracy Brown, the investigation continues and no further details are being released.

Indiana Sheriffs Association to award scholarships


LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Tippecanoe County Sheriff Tracy Brown announced today that the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association will again be awarding college scholarships to qualified high school seniors or college students who are pursuing a degree in criminal justice studies. There will be approximately forty (40) five hundred dollar ($500.00) scholarships awarded to qualifying students throughout the state.

The Indiana Sheriffs’ Association Scholarship fund was established for the purpose of receiving, investing, and dispensing of funds to provide college scholarships to qualified students who are committed pursuing an education and career in the law enforcement field.

To qualify for one of these scholarships, the applicant must be an Indiana resident, be a current member of the association or a dependent child or grandchild of a current member of the association, attend an Indiana college or university, major in a law enforcement field and enroll as a full-time student (12 hours).

Applications for the scholarships are available from the high school counselor, the Sheriff’s Office located at 2640 Duncan Road, Lafayette, Indiana, or at its website at www.tippecanoesheriff.com.

The application must be completed and received by the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association on or before April 1, 2008.

ALERT: Tippecanoe County issues hazardous travel watch


LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Tippecanoe County Commissioners in conjunction with the Tippecanoe County Sheriff, Emergency Management Director and Tippecanoe Highway Department Superintendent have issued a LEVEL 3 “Hazardous Travel Watch” for Tippecanoe County roadways through 8 a.m. Friday (Jan. 16).

This does not prohibit travel, but recommends caution. It also asks that the public makes an effort to not park in a way that interferes with snow removal. Level 3 is the least restrictive.

Conditions will continue to be monitored to determine if the advisory level needs to be modified. Currently the level 3 advisory will expire at 8 a.m. Friday (Jan. 16).

Weekend fight results in injuries to three, two arrests


LAFAYETTE, Ind. -– Two people were stabbed and one injured during an early morning altercation on Sunday (11/30) at the Bay Water Apartments in West Lafayette. All three were treated at area hospitals for minor injuries and released.

On Sunday morning, November 30, 2008 at approximately 3:00 AM, deputies from the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 3693 Desoto Drive (Bay Water Apartments) in reference to a reported stabbing. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies determined that two individuals had been stabbed and another had received facial injuries during an altercation on the parking lot near 3693 Desoto Drive. It is believed that all three individuals had attended a party at the residence.

The following individuals were treated and released from area hospitals:

  • Noe Gonzalez (19) of West Lafayette was treated for minor stab wounds at Saint Elizabeth Medical Center
  • Michael Hickman (18) of West Lafayette was treated for minor stab wounds at Home Hospital
  • Kevin Robinson (19) of West Lafayette was treated for facial lacerations at Saint Elizabeth Medical Center

Further investigation into the incident resulted in the arrest of Joshua Lee Robinson, age eighteen (18) of 2367 Yeager Road, Apartment 205, West Lafayette, Indiana on suspicion of two counts of Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon (I.C. 35-42-2-1 (3)) as a Class C Felony. He is being held in the Tippecanoe County Jail on a $10,000.00 bond.

During the investigation, Kevin Robinson, Joshua Robinson’s older brother, was also arrested on suspicion of Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Deliver (35-48-4-10 (2) (b)) as a Class C Felony, Possession of a Scheduled II Controlled Substance (35-48-4-7 (2) (c)) as a Class C Felony, and Maintaining a Common Nuisance (35-48-4-13 (b)) as a Class D Felony. Kevin Robinson is also being held in the Tippecanoe County Jail on a $10,000.00 bond.

The investigation continues and no further information will be released.
