CFGL announces new endowment created in memory of Liz Patout Alting

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette (CFGL) announces the establishment of the Liz Patout Alting Endowment, an advised fund whose earnings will be made available as grants to eligible charitable organizations. The endowment was created by PVT Ronnie Alting, Jr. and Ashley Alting to honor their mother, Liz Patout Alting, who died of cancer in 2003.

“This is a wonderful way for them (Ronnie and Ashley) to honor their mother and also to help their community. I hope that other families will follow this example. I feel that the Community Foundation is the best way to do that,” said State Sen. Ron Alting (R) Lafayette.

The Liz Patout Alting Endowment is one of 30 advised endowment funds managed by The Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette. Each year, the fund’s earnings will be available for grants. An advised endowment provides for an advisory committee that recommends eligible charitable recipients for grants.

“We welcome this endowment to our family of charitable funds. It will help the community by providing ongoing grants to not-for-profit organizations,” stated Greg Kapp, Community Foundation President.

During its history over $13 million has been granted to not-for-profit organizations in Greater Lafayette. In 2010, 69 nonprofit organizations received grants, and 48 individuals received scholarships totaling $636,224 in 2010. Many grants were for those one-time capital expenses that nonprofits struggle to fund and desperately need. An Annual Report is available electronically.
